Fujitsu’s LifeBook Uan ultrasmall convertible tablet and laptop–is a pound, palm-size Windows Vista system whose lilliputian. Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation today announced the availability of the palm-sized LifeBook(R) U mini convertible notebook. The device has both CF Card 3 bottom and SD card 3 slots, and there is a fingerprint sensor located at the lower left of the screen. I’ve mentioned time and again that benchmarks and technical data aren’t my cup of tea it’s even in my Htjlso as I always say when I post bits like this, I’ll leave the analysis up to the experts. We’ve always liked UMPCs in theory–shrinking a laptop down in size to something you can almost pocket–but these systems, including the OQO model 02 and the Sony VAIO UX, shed so much usability and so many features along the way that they are more like souped-up smart phones than actual computers.
So, details like letters are bigger. Screen orientation can be rotated a full degrees. The experience isn’t on par with a full-size tablet PC, u8110 course, but given the size of the unit and the screen, it’s not too bad.

While significant flaws ultimately bog this machine down, something close to it could be a real contender. Of course, you also get less computer than with a standard ultra-light. The mini-keyboard has a little flex, which reminded me of the LifeBook T It allows me to type faster than I’ve ever been able to on a portable device and although there are some definite annoyances with the layout and double-mapping of the u8110 and arrow keys, the individual key size and tactile feedback are superb.

With a little practice, it could be a decent note-taking companion at meetings and other events. Reflection and glare are happily nonexistent in low-light situations or under artificial lighting.
Multi-finger typing can feel cramped after significant stretches of time, but it also provides rapid data entry. Tablet PC functionality is built into the unit’s Vista Home Premium operating system, so TIPhandwriting recognition, and gestures are all supported.
